Sooner or later we all quote our mothers

My mother is sometimes a veritable font of wisdom.

But sometimes she says things that I have to ask her to repeat before I believe my ears.

Apparently I am not alone in this; when I’ve said to friends ‘You’ll NEVER guess what my mother said’ they’ll often wait patiently for the answer, nod sympathetically, and say ‘That’s nothing. Wait to you hear what MY mother said…”

It seems that as soon as a woman gives birth, a switch is triggered in her brain that allows her to say the most stupid things, and those things are hilarious. Not only are they often funny, sometimes they’re downright mean – don’t worry, I sympathise. They’re allowed to say mean things because they love us, but that doesn’t always take away the sting.

We all love our mothers, but there’s no harm in telling the world some of the funnier things that come out of their mouths!

If you would like to share something your mum said, email us here: thingsmymothersaid [at] hotmail [dot] com, giving your story, name and location.
